Six Types of Yogic Purification Practices

There are no better means than the yogic system of purification to keep the body clean, healthy and beautiful. Our body has three basic properties: vaat, pitt and kaph. If these three are present in the body in a balanced form, the body remains pure and disease-free. Six-fold yogic purification practices help to maintain them in a balanced form. If this balance is disturbed, the body becomes susceptible to several kinds of diseases. Those who do these practices regularly will generally have no ailments. But if any ailment is contracted by the body, the same can be removed by these practices. Our present-day habit of consuming undesirable food and leading fast life are the cause of several body disorders through the accumulation of impurities in the body. To remove these diseases the six-fold yogic purification practices are prescribed so that the body may function properly in its natural way. The six types of yogic purification practices are: Neti, Dhauti, Nauli, Basti, Kapalbhati and Trataka.

Kapalbhati Kriya

Kapalbhati melts the phlegm in lungs and in the veins carrying phlegm and excretes it through perspiration. By this, the lungs become healthy, strong and free from impurities. This also activates Sushumna, which ensures peace of mind.

Caution: Those suffering from heart disease, jaundice, or insomnia should not practice this Pranayama.
