Physical and Mental Health: Some Practical Hints

A regular daily routine disciplines the body and the mind. Without this discipline, one cannot get full advantage of the yogasanas and other yogic practices. Regularity and discipline are a must for the practitioner of yoga or the Sadhaka. Yogasanas, if done irregularly and without proper preparation, do not lend their full benefit to the body and the mind. So, we must have an ideal daily routine.

Sound Physical Health

Early Rising: This is the first and the foremost requisite for a Sadhaka. Early to sleep and early to rise is a maxim no where more appropriate as here. Sleeping early brings sound sleep, makes the mind calm and the thoughts pure. Early rising removes laziness and brings agility in the body and the mind. An early riser is able to finish with his daily chores like walking, exercise and cleaning bowels without undue haste. After getting up early, one should clean one’s teeth, wash one’s face, drink a glass of water and should go to answer the call of nature. One should go for evacuation at the fixed time everyday. Even if the feeling is not there, one must still go to latrine at the fixed time. Those who develop this regular habit never suffer from constipation. The children in the family should also be taught to go to latrine at a fixed time everyday. Cleaning one’s bowels is the most essential process of cleaning. No amount of outward cleanliness can be of any help if the bowels are not clean. If the natural process does not help, the next course is enema, because enema is helpful in cleaning the bowels. The very first condition of good-health is the daily cleaning of the bowels regularly as well as punctually. This will make your body light and increase your appetite.
