Start with Clean StomachBut before the above-mentioned list is given, it is considered most essential to point out that yogasanas, mudras and pranayama should always be performed on empty stomach and clean body, preferably after taking bath. Yoga is for purification of body, mind and spirit. So, one must start with clean body and clean mind. Clean bowels are actually the very first and the most essential condition of yogic practices. Those who do not have their bowels clean in a natural way should therefore first perform those exercises which help in this. Bastikriya described is prescribed by ancient acharyas for complete evacuation. But experience shows that common people cannot and do not practice such yogic kriyas because they are difficult to perform. Naturopathy has helped solve this problem by enema. But yogic method is better because it is more natural. Realizing the difficulty of performing Bastikriya, a simpler practice of easy evacuation has been devised which is as effective as original Bastikriya. The following paragraph describes this useful practice, which can be performed by the sick as well as healthy people. It is very beneficial practice for constipated patients also. Easy Method of Evacuation: Drink two glassfuls of water alter brushing your teeth in the morning. Those who suffer from constipation may mix the juice of a lemon and a little salt with water. Lie flat on your back and raise your legs slowly up to an angle of 30°. Stay in this position for one or two minutes and then raise your legs up to 90° and stay in this position also for a minute or two. After this, raise your lower body up further by giving support of your hands at the back below the hips. In this position, your body should be a perpendicular to the ground. Stay in this position from 2 to 3 minutes. Those who cannot raise their legs and stand in this posture, particularly weak patients, should support their legs against a wall. The entire process of this mudra should not take more than five minutes. Come back to the rest position and stay for a few moments and then perform the following asanas each for 2 to 3 times: Shalabhasana, Bhujangasaria, Ardhachakr-asana and Hastpadasana. Those who are sick and weak should instead do Yogamudra, Pawanamuktasana and Shalabhasana. A strong and relieving motion follows within 10 minutes alter practicing these asanas. This process of easy evacuation ensures perfect cleaning of the bowels, so that all impurities in the stomach or the intestines are washed out with water. Neither enema nor any laxative is capable of performing this task so thoroughly and as naturally as this method is capable of doing. Sometimes decomposed bile and acids stick inside the walls of the intestines and the stomach and become the cause of many diseases. This method gradually dilutes them and passes them out of the body along with the water drunk in the morning. The asanas suggested in this method quicken the process of this dilution as also quick, easy and natural evacuation. It is so sale that even the sick can practice this. |
